Premier League Boxing Day fixtures 2024/25
The Premier League festive schedule is one of the best times of the season for fans as games come thick and fast, and it’ll be no different this year. Boxing Day football is a much-loved tradition in the top-flight, and there are some excellent fixtures to look forward to this Christmas. Around Christmas, it is wall-to-wall top-flight football Of course, talkSPORT will be right across the action throughout and we’ll have live coverage of ALL TEN Gameweek 18 matches around Boxing Day. There are a couple of huge games to look forward to this Christmas time and Tottenham’s home tie against Liverpool looks an intriguing one. Last season, Spurs beat nine-man Liverpool 2-1, needing a late own goal from Joel Matip to seal the victory, while the Reds saw a perfectly good goal disallowed wrongly by VAR. If it is anything like that one, we are in for a treat. As well as that encounter, there is Aston Villa vs Manchester City, Newcastle vs Villa, and Manchester United against the Toon. Each Premier League team will play four times in the two-week period over the holidays. There is no mid-season break this year, meaning January will be just as busy for many Premier League teams, with the FA Cup third round scheduled for the second weekend. Rodri ceremony appears to delay kick-off for Man City vs Tottenham
Manchester City’s clash with Tottenham kicked off late after Rodri’s Ballon d’Or presentation. The midfielder showed off the award to the crowd at the Etihad Stadium prior to kick-off. GettyRodri was presented with his Ballon d’Or trophy before the match against Spurs[/caption] With his name draped across the pitch and on lights behind him, he waved to supporters as part of a lavish pre-match ceremony which began ten minutes before kick-off. Rodri was named this year’s winner of the prestigious award last month at a ceremony in Paris. The 28-year-old finished ahead of Real Madrid pair Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham in the voting. He was rewarded for winning the Premier League, Club World Cup and Euros in a successful season with club and country. Rodri also scored nine goals and provided 14 assists from midfield for City in 50 appearances across all competitions. Saturday’s visit of Spurs was City’s first at home since the ceremony. After Rodri had been presented with the award in front of the crowd, the players finally emerged from the tunnel. However, he then reappeared for a guard of honour from his team-mates before embracing manager Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard did not leave the pitch until 5.30pm, the scheduled kick-off time for the match. Once he had left the field, Spurs walked towards their travelling fans for a pre-match huddle to further delay the start. https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1860374516179882400 Referee John Brooks eventually got the match started at 5.31pm, one minute later than scheduled. Rodri is currently sidelined for City after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Arsenal in September. He has since undergone surgery on the injury but is expected to miss the rest of the season as a result. In his absence, City have lost their last four matches in all competitions, including a Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Spurs. Meanwhile, league defeats to Bournemouth and Brighton have seen the champions slip five points behind leaders Liverpool. City’s torrid run continued on Saturday as well thanks to a brace from James Maddison before goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson. The 4-0 defeat ended City’s 52-match unbeaten home run and was their heaviest at home in the league under Guardiola.
